Hello and welcome to the inaugural post at Golf World UK.
It is of blissful coincidence that this blog has been launched on a day where British golf could well find a new king – or to be more exact a Masters Champion. 21year old, and Northern Ireland born Rory Mcilroy stands 4 shots clear at the 2011 Masters Major in Augusta with his aim of emulating close friend and compatriot Graeme McDowell’s major win, a mere 18 holes away.
His third round yesterday oozed confidence and a maturity well in advance of his age. His reading of the green and the subsequent put on the 17th was one of a future champion, and a repeat of yesterdays round of 2 under should see him home. Leads have been blown in the past here, just ask Nick Watney, but everyone here will be hoping Rory keeps his nerve for what will be another string in the rising British golf talents bow.
